An enjoyable sail from Boulogne to Dunkerque - even if it did involve some beating to windward - saw the 48 miles covered in a little over 7 hours with some help from the tide.

Another wonky horizon, but you get the idea! |

The entrance to Dunkerque |
We wanted to visit Dunkerque because of its second world war history. We'd heard of the evacuation from Dunkirk but knew little of the background to it. This was our opportunity to put that right.
Our visit to the war museum - "Memorial du Souvenir" - was an interesting, informative and deeply moving experience. The museum uses film, newspaper reproductions and artifacts to tell the story of Operation Dynamo and we left with a deep admiration for the courage and resolve shown by those involved. We are so fortunate to have never had to experience anything like it ourselves.
